Project Spotlight: Accessible Master Bath

While it is always my goal to create beautiful spaces, functionality is one of the most important considerations when I design a bathroom.

It’s particularly important when my clients or their guests have physical limitations or concerns.  This master bathroom was built with form and function front of mind!

This space was designed for a client who has Parkinson’s Disease.  They built a master suite addition on the ground floor to eliminate the need to go up and down the stairs. We designed the adjoining bathroom and closet area to allow for as much independence and safety as possible.

The swinging shower doors allow for bathing assistance, as does a hinged door at the toilet area.  There is no threshold at the shower which allows for wheelchair access in the future.  We chose slip-resistant tile for a seamless transition from the main floor to the shower. We even installed radiant heat flooring throughout to keep the tile nice and warm on cold winter days.

Abundant lighting keeps the space beautiful, functional and safe. We used a combination of natural light at the window and skylight and artificial, ambient recessed lights and sconces for task lighting. Soft colors and traditional design elements create a timeless and classic look and the pops of coral keep it fresh! Our goal is to create custom bathroom spaces that are as user-friendly as they are beautiful!
